National Nurses United today re-affirmed its strong support for Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota to be the next chair of the Democratic National Committee and condemned the latest round vitriolic attacks on Ellison as "symbolic of McCarthy era politics that should have no place in American politics".

While elected officials have chaired the DNC in the past, but many Democrats, including some in the Obama administration, have expressed concerns that leading the party against Donald Trump will be a full-time job.

Ellison responded via open letter on Thursday, stating that he was committed to Israel's safety and security, and supported a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It wasn't for something Ellison said decades ago but rather a 2010 speech recently unearthed, where Ellison appears to question Israel's influence over USA foreign policy. Does that make sense?

Saban's comments were in response to growing controversies dogging Ellison, among them his past ties to the Nation of Islam, which he renounced in 2006, as well as statements made in 2010 that came to light after a recording was leaked, which have been characterized by some critics as anti-Israel.

The hot topic was choosing a new chair for the committee.
