Trump's electoral vote total far from record

What happened to one person, one vote?

"For the second time in recent memory, and for the fifth time in our history, the national popular vote victor - including Tennesseans Al Gore and Andrew Jackson - will not become President of the United States because of the Electoral College", said Congressman Cohen.

Many also continue to point out that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, a fact that Trump has consistently discounted, and he claims that he would have won the popular vote as well as the electoral vote - if so many people hadn't voted illegally (a claim he hasn't provided any evidence for). That means only in the US can the person with the most votes lose and the one with millions fewer win.

Members are allowed to protest when Congress officially counts the electoral votes, and Reps. If one discounts the (primarily liberal) votes from these states, Trump garnered more votes than Clinton in the other 48 states.

When criticizing the Electoral College and pointing to the final popular vote totals, people need to consider that serious, major party presidential candidates are not looking to amass votes, they are looking to amass the states and their electoral votes.

The president is elected by each state's popular vote.

Whether or not those Electoral College votes are truly illegitimate, if anyone can prove it to Congress's liking, and if so, whether Congress would ever overturn the college's decision remains to be seen.
