TV series Charmed gets green light for spellbinding remake

One major change taking place is that the Charmed reboot will be set in 1976, so expect vintage costumes and retro hairstyles, galore. Also exciting is that the series is being helmed by Jennie Snyder Urman, the executive producer of the excellent Jane The Virgin.

Charmed is the ideal fit for The CW, especially as it "arrives as the younger-skewing network is poised to say farewell to The Vampire Diaries", according to THR.

Several Charmed stars reacted on Twitter to the news.

The original series starred Shannen Doherty (Prue), Holly Marie Combs (Piper), Rose McGowan (Paige) and Alyssa Milano (Phoebe), however if Alyssa's tweet from previous year is anything to go by the reboot won't include the original cast. The plot follows three sisters, known as "The Charmed Ones", who are the most powerful good witches of all time.

However, Holly made it seem like she would not be a part of the reboot with one telling tweet.

The CW Network has confirmed that it's developing a new adaptation of the magical drama which originally ran from 1998 to 2006. Meanwhile, Rose McGowan, who played Paige Halliwell, said she does not like the idea of reboots in general. We know fans will be more than just a little thrilled to find out that a Charmed reboot is in the works. She told us that a reboot would need to do the original show "justice", but she didn't think anyone would be "opposed to it".

"Charmed" joins a long list of reboots hitting the airwaves, including "Fuller House", "The Exorcist" and "The X-Files".
