MA gas prices fall again

AAA Northeast's weekly survey of local prices, released Monday, finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.20 per gallon, three cents less than last week. The average is about 50 cents higher than one year ago and 3 cents cheaper than one month ago, according to GasBuddy.

The rate continues a months-long streak with no retailers around Valdosta offering gasoline for less than $2 a gallon. Nationally, the average price for a gallon of gasoline was $2.27 Tuesday, down 10 cents since January 7 and up 47 cents since January 30, 2016. The national average has decreased 6.7 cents per gallon over the last month but stands 46.2 cents higher than a year ago. No gas station is charging less than $1.50 a gallon, and more than about 87% are charging more than $2.00 a gallon.

Increased U.S. crude oil production and lower gasoline demand have kept pump prices lower.

About 11,000 US gas stations are selling gas below $2.00 per gallon. Meanwhile, a flurry of executive orders from President Donald Trump have had little impact on gas prices so far, but DeHaan says if Keystone XL is built it could drive US gas prices up.
