Brandon Phillips is close to being dealt to the Atlanta Braves

Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reported two players, since reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer to be pitchers Andrew McKirahan and Carlos Portuondo, will go to the Reds in the trade. Reds manager Bryan Price has already announced the plan is for Jose Peraza to be the starting second baseman going into the season. This was (at least) the second time Phillips had invoked his 10-and-5 rights to veto a trade. Rodriguez and the three other members of his family were involved in a serious vehicle crash in Miami, Florida on January 29 that left him with an injured left shoulder, his wife in stable condition, and his two young children in serious yet stable condition.

According to multiple sources, including ESPN's Jim Bowden, both teams have agreed to a trade and Phillips will waive his no-trade clause to head to Atlanta.

Phillips, who turns 36 on June 28, spent 11 seasons in Cincinnati after being acquired from the Indians in April 2006 in exchange for a player to be named later (pitcher Jeff Stevens, who never threw an inning in Cleveland). Phillips has averaged a.279 batting average and more than 13 home runs per season over the past five years, speaking to the power and hit tool he brings to the table.

Phillips is a three-time All-Star and four-time gold glove award victor over the course of a 15-year career that began with the Indians back in 2002.

Carmelo Anthony Treatment by Phil Jackson May Impact Knicks in Free Agency
Frank Isola of The New York Daily News reported that LeBron James was pushing the Cavs to make a deal for Anthony . Anthony has tried to maintain a focus on turning around the Knicks and getting them back to the playoffs.

"We are thrilled to "welcome home" Brandon to Atlanta, where he will play in front of his family and friends and many of his fans", Coppolella said. Phillips isn't a powerful hitter but a good situational hitter who should hit.280 or better and offer above average defense.

Rumors regarding a potential Phillips trade have been swirling since 2015. Atlanta is not expected to give up much in the way of prospects in the deal.

The 35-year-old has driven in 134 runs with 37 steals over his last two seasons.

Portuondo, 29, signed with the Braves as a free-agent in February 2016, following eight seasons with Santiago in the Cuban National Series. McKirahan is recovering from his second Tommy John surgery, done last March.
