2-Year-Old Chicago Boy Fatally Shot While Riding in auto


A 2-year-old Chicago boy's slaying was captured Tuesday on Facebook Live as the vehicle in which he, his pregnant aunt and her boyfriend were traveling was ambushed in what police said was a gang-related shooting. 2, was riding in a auto with his aunt, Breunna Devonte, 20 and her boyfriend, 27, who, according to police, was a known gang member.

According to police, Lavontay and the man were both hit in the head by bullets.

Police say the man who died here at the scene is a document a gang member and it was a targeted shooting.

Police said the little boy who died is the nephew of the pregnant woman who also was shot. About three minutes into the video, a series of gunshots were heard as the woman fled from the auto to a home of someone she called "Momma", just a few feet away.

"We have very promising leads", Johnson said at a news conference.

The woman cried out in pain and ran from the vehicle, her cellphone camera jerking as she ran along a fence line and a total of 15 gunshots continued behind her.

Last year, there were more than 750 murders and 3,500 shootings - levels not seen in Chicago in two decades. Kanari Gentry Bowers, 12, who was shot as she played basketball with friends, remained in critical condition Tuesday evening.

Lavontay was the second child to die in Chicago on Tuesday as a result of a gunshot wound as the city continues to battle an uproar in gun violence.

President Trump has repeatedly criticized Chicago's violence, and tweeted that he would "send in the feds" if the city did not fix the problem.

Emanuel called for "meaningful gun control" and tougher legislation to keep repeat violent offenders off the streets. Authorities have not released his name or the circumstances of the shooting.

Since January, there have been 76 reported homicides.
