Most banks will be closed though you may find a branch here or there in a store that's open. "A number of states also require that their public schools spend the days leading up to Presidents' Day teaching students about the accomplishments of the presidents, often with a focus on the lives of Washington and Lincoln'". Buses are running, but schools are closed.

You touch his face more often than you realize, and Monday is the day we honor our country's first president.

The federal government did try to do right by Washington in 1879 when they added a fifth national holiday.

There's no regular mail delivery and post offices will be closed.

I even called the governor's office this George Washington "birthday" morning to see if they were answering the phone.

Washington's birthday became a federal holiday in 1885.

Although Washington's birthday is February 22, a legislation passed in the 1960s designated that it, along with Memorial Day and Veteran's Day, would be celebrated on Mondays, according to the Smithsonian.

It was the popularity of Abraham Lincoln, and the fact the his birthday is only 10 days before on February 12, that made people reconsider how we celebrated our most iconic presidents, and others after them.

Washington should have a standalone holiday and if the country wished to extend a similar honor to Lincoln, it can be done with enough separation so as not to overlap each other. Still, the federal holiday is, and has always been Washington's Birthday.

Many historians consider Washington and Lincoln our greatest presidents (although you might get an argument from the present occupant of the White House).

Here are a few tidbits to share with your children this Presidents' Day.

Since the election of Donald Trump, many have chanted "Not my president" time and time again.

"Yes, it is. Happy Presidents' Day".
