Deron Williams Reportedly May Receive Buyout from Dallas Mavericks

There are a lot of National Basketball Association rumors about guards changing hands before the February 23 deadline, but Deron Williams traded to the Utah Jazz could certainly steal headlines.

How about this: Alec Burks and the Jazz's extra 2017 first-rounder from Golden State to Dallas for the expiring deals of Deron Williams and Andrew Bogut.

A deal with the Dallas Mavericks isn't considered imminent, however.

During the 16-17 season, Williams is averaging 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 29.3 minutes per game.

Williams is averaging 13 points per game and seven assists on a Mavericks team going nowhere fast.

Williams' five-and-a-half year stint in Utah had many highs, but also ended in ugly fashion when he feuded with Jerry Sloan, leading to Sloan's abrupt retirement in the middle of the 2011 season. A Williams-led Jazz outfit made the Western Finals in 2007.

To some surprise, it was a quiet deadline for the Utah Jazz.

He now sits fourth on the team's all-time assist leaders list with 4,003, and also features in the top 10 for points, minutes played, three-pointers made, offensive rating and win shares for the team.

Kevin Pelton: Sellers. With the New Orleans Pelicans adding Cousins, the Mavericks' odds of coming back to make the playoffs this season have gotten even longer. The report also explains that no trade will go ahead without Williams' consent.

Jazz starting point guard George Hill is having trouble staying healthy this season, missing 22 of 57 games before the All-Star break.

The Jazz expressed some interest in reacquiring Williams via trade, but talks never reached a serious stage, sources said.

It is now unclear as to what the Jazz would send to the Mavericks as part of any potential deal, but it would be safe to assume a package of young players and/or a pick will suit Dallas.
