Sixers' Joel Embiid out indefinitely with knee soreness, swelling

He's averaging a remarkable 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in just 25.4 minutes, but even the team's careful monitoring of his health this season couldn't prevent this setback.

Embiid is scheduled to have an MRI on Monday.

Now that the Cameroonian big man has experienced swelling in the injured knee, though, that return date has gone by the wayside.

The Sixers play the Golden State Warriors tonight at the Wells Fargo Center.

Embiid has missed 16 of the past 17 games with the ailment. The only game he's played since was the January 27 nationally televised loss to the Rockets.

Embiid, the No. 3 overall pick in 2014, missed his first two seasons while recovering from foot surgery. Simmons fractured the foot during training camp in October.

Embiid's injury issues are compounded by the fact that the 76ers announced last week 2016 No. 1 overall draft pick Ben Simmons is out for the season with a foot injury.
