Niantic to Unveil Major Updates to Pokemon Go, New Ingress

As Dronpes from The Silph Road noted, it's good that Hanke refers to the Gen 2 update as the "first major update" since the game was released, automatically qualifying all other updates as "minor" in comparison.

While Niantic look to have a solid roadmap to follow and several more major Pokemon Go updates to release this year, Nintendo have not being resting on their laurels.

If you don't find yourself being enticed by the new offering, there's always the chance of reinvigorating your interest in Pokemon Go with the next major update. Now that Pokemon Go is stable, Niantic can focus on all of the features that weren't ready for launch. "We'll be launching a new version of our original game, Ingress, later this year and we have some other projects that unfortunately I can't talk about today", Hanke said at the event, reassuring fans that more will be known in the coming months.

Hanke also revealed that a new Ingress game is in the works, and can be expected this year. This could be where Legendary Pokemon get introduced into the game. It suggested that the game may receive real-time weather system, such as overcast or rainy.

That appears to have been resolved, as DeVos is quoted in a statement as saying the issue is "best solved at the state and local level".

According to reports, trading is not a priority, leaving a new Player-v-Player feature as a possible contender.

In addition to this, CEO John Hanke stated that the game had crossed 650 million downloads as of Tuesday.

Still, Hanke seemed assured that the game was doing well. Users have also walked a combined 8.7 billion kilometers through December catching Pokemon -- about the same distance to Pluto at its furthest point in orbit, he added. 35,000 retail spots have become sponsored locations for PokeStops in the game, which has so far received a total of 500 million visits.
