Daylight Saving Time is a good time to keep in mind to change the batteries in residential smoke alarms.

The Charlottesville Fire Department reminds you that Sunday, March 12th begins daylight savings time.

If you don't know exactly how old your smoke alarms are, you should replace them just to be safe.

More than 95 percent of US homes have at least one smoke detector installed inside them, but most homeowners remain unaware of the different kinds of sensors available and their effectiveness, reports the U.S National Fire Protection Association.

Also, it's a good time to check the batteries in your home's smoke detectors.
