Airlines cancel more than 1500 flights ahead of late winter storm

USA Today reports most major airlines have already canceled flights for Monday as the late-season snowstorm bears down on us.

The flight cancellations included more than 2,800 in the New York City area alone, where about 200 passengers were stranded at Kennedy Airport. "Each airline has an app and they'll usually send you text alerts whenever there's a change in your flight".

Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Melissa Ford said the airline anticipated canceling almost its entire Northeast schedule on Tuesday, according to USA Today. Meanwhile, American Airlines, JetBlue, and United Airlines have all canceled more than 500 flights apiece, according to the AP.

According to live flight tracker FlightAware, 6,022 flights have been cancelled, with many flights to and from London impacted.

At John Wayne Airport, just one outbound flight, a 9:15 p.m. flight to Newark, was canceled.

The preemptive cancellations and weather waivers come as the storm was expected to hit its peak in the Northeast on Tuesday.

All flights from Baltimore/Washington International, Philadelphia International and Boston Logan International are canceled.
