Interpol 'red notice' issued for four North Koreans, says KL

They have identified seven North Koreans wanted in connection with the murder, including four who are believed to have made their way back to Pyongyang.

An Interpol red notice is a request to find and provisionally arrest someone pending extradition.

Any decision will be subject to negotiations between the two countries amid a diplomatic stand-off over the killing, he added.

Markets in the North show an upward trend in their numbers and scale, which is more noticeable under the Kim Jong-un regime, the broadcaster said.

Although Malaysia has never directly accused North Korea of being behind the attack, many speculate that it must have orchestrated it. Experts say the VX nerve agent used to kill Kim was nearly certainly produced in a sophisticated state weapons laboratory, and North Korea is widely believed to possess large quantities of chemical weapons.

The US intelligence community and defence officials are anticipating that North Korea will soon carry out a new round of testing of its missile and nuclear programme, a media report said on Friday.

"The only parties that will benefit from this incident are the enemy countries".

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on Wednesday that Kuala Lumpur Hospital had embalmed Jong Nam's body to prevent decomposition.

North Korea denies that the body is Kim Jong Nam's, but they have repeatedly demanded that Malaysian authorities hand it over.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim confirmed yesterday that Jong Nam's next of kin had left it to the Malaysian government to manage the remains.

Kim Jong-nam had been living in the Chinese territory of Macau under Beijing's protection after the family went into exile several years ago.

"We judge that the move reflects the USA parliament's serious concerns over North Korea's threats and its bipartisan, tough stance on the need for an in-depth review of the issue to put the North back on the list of state sponsors of terrorism", a senior official at Seoul's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, declining to be named. There are fears his 21-year-old son, Kim Han-Sol, could be targeted next.
