Ivanka Trump scores West Wing office, government security clearances

Plaintiffs will have even more to complain about now that President Trump's daughter has her own West Wing office and will be getting access to classified information.

President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump will receive an office in the West Wing of the White House and a security clearance as she serves, informally, as an adviser to her father, ABC News has confirmed.

Gorelick maintained that despite not having an official role in the administration, Ivanka Trump plans to follow the same ethics and records retention rules that are applied to government employees. She's met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and her husband Jared Kushner has an official position as senior adviser.

Hey, remember when Ivanka Trump first moved to Washington back in January and she assured everyone that she would not be playing a formal role in her father's administration? Fox has pulled its senior legal analyst Andrew Napolitano, who made the claims last week, off the air.

However, this does raise a number of ethical red flags, especially regarding conflicts of interest.

Angela Merkel's glance at Ivanka Trump speaks volumes
Both emphasized the need for fair trade, but Trump couldn't help but complain that Germany is now profiting at America's expense. "At least we have something in common", Donald Trump said to a confused Angela Merkel regarding the subject of wiretapping.

Trump has taken a leave of absence from her company and set up a trust to provide oversight. She will adhere to the ethics rules for government employees as well, but she won't be collecting a paycheck. Though she will not be sworn in or get a government salary, she will resemble a full-time staffer in the White House in other ways.

She wore a black jersey jacket with white piping and matching tracksuit bottoms, and added a pair of large gold and tortoise shell sunglasses to complete the look.

The fact that she has even that much involvement and is now working even more closely with her father, the president, means she'll need to tread very carefully. The better thing to do would be to concede she is subject to the rules. Instead, she will informally wield a massive amount of political power.

Ivanka has issued her own statement addressing the ethics of such a move. She also acknowledged that the arrangement did not eliminate conflicts, but she said Trump is trying to minimize them and will recuse herself from any administration decision-making that affects her business.
