Ford Issues Four Recalls In North America, Over 442000 Vehicles Affected

Ford said Wednesday that it would fix defects in more than 441,000 vehicles in North America through separate recalls, including certain versions of the popular Escape sport-utility vehicle and Fusion sedan.

In North America it includes Escape SUVs from the 2014 model year, plus the 2014 and 2015 compact Fiesta ST, the 2013 and 2014 Fusion midsize auto and the 2013 through 2015 Transit Connect small van.

Ford will mail customers instructions on how to check and refill the coolant. If an engine overheats, it may crack a cylinder head, which can leak pressurized oil. So far, Ford is aware of 29 reports of engine fires.

Owners of the impacted vehicles will receive reminders from Ford on how to properly maintain coolant levels. If a vehicle has a coolant leak or overheats frequently, then customers should see their dealer right away.

The auto giant is also recalling another 211,000 2013 and 2014 model year vehicles as part of a previous recall over faulty door latches that cause doors to open while the car is being driven. In September, Ford said it was taking a $640 million charge for its expanded side-door latch recalls.

Ford has also issued a recall for 111 2017 Ford Edge cars to fix windshield header welds. The recall number is 17809.

Driving a auto that is on fire or that has doors popping open is impressive, but not recommended.

Ford isn't aware of any accidents or injuries in the three other recalls. Continued operation of a vehicle at these speeds could result in a resonance frequency that may fracture transmission and/or driveline components.

There are approximately 548 vehicles located in North America, including 509 in the United States and 39 in Canada. Dealers will swap out the two-piece driveshaft with a new three-piece driveshaft and install two center bearing brackets. The recalled vehicles are missing welds in the windshield, which could increase the risk of injury in a side-impact crash.
