Mylan announces nationwide EpiPen recall

Officials say the recalled product was manufactured by Meridian Medical Technologies and distributed by Mylan between December 2015 and January 2016.

The recall is due to the potential that these devices may contain a defective part that may result in the devices' failure to activate.

Mylcan called the defect "extremely rare", and is recalling 13 lots of the pens.

Pharmaceutical company Mylan has announced a nationwide, voluntary recall of certain lots of EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. due to a possible defect.

Some EpiPen autoinjectors have reportedly not quite been autoinjecting as they're supposed to, prompting the parent company to voluntarily initiate a far-reaching product recall.

EpiPens are used to give an emergency injection of epinephrine to treat life-threatening allergic reactions. Mylan will replacing any of the affected devices free of charge. The easiest way to check if your product is included is by first checking the expiration date - if your devices expire in April, May, October, or November 2017, check the lot number against this chart. Mylan bought the EpiPen product in 2007 and then continued to raise the price of the product over the decade to follow-upwards of 600 percent-arguing that maintaining consistent quality of the product was a major reason for the significant price hikes.

"The expanded voluntary recall is being initiated in the US and also will extend to additional markets in Europe, Asia, North and South America", Mylan said in a statement.

Mylan CEO Heather Bresch was even called to testify in front of Congress a year ago, though she lied about things like how much the company was making on the product.
