Ex-NFL star Hernandez acquitted in Boston double murder

Though Friday's verdict has no impact on that conviction, the Associated Press reports that emotions still ran high in the Boston courtroom.

Former NFL player Aaron Hernandez and defense attorney Charles Rankin wait in the courtroom during the jury deliberation in his murder trial at the Bristol County Superior Court in Fall River, Massachusetts, April 10, 2015.

Aaron Hernandez stands at the defense table Thursday. He described Hernandez as a "very good young man who happened to hang out with a very bad guy in Alexander Bradley". Defendant Aaron Hernandez listens as Judge Jeffrey Locke addresses the jury's question during his double murder trial at Suffolk Superior Court, Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in Boston.

The jury heard from witnesses including a friend, Alexander Bradley, who said that he was in the auto with Hernandez when the football star shot dead Cape Verdean nationals Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado outside the Boston nightclub.

Hernandez is already facing life in prison for the murder of Lloyd.

Prosecutors introduced evidence at trial that Hernandez got a tattoo that memorialized the double slaying.

"We are extraordinarily thankful to the jury", Sullivan said. Hernandez wanted five bullets visible in the cylinder of the gun and one cylinder empty, Nelson said.

He had been accused of the fatal shooting of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado outside a Boston nightclub in 2012.

"The evidence in this case all points to Aaron Hernandez as the sole person responsible for the tragic and untimely deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado". He was cut from the team shortly after he was arrested in Lloyd's killed in June 2013.
