Newest Knicks' rebuild will begin with decision on Anthony

Newest Knicks' rebuild will begin with decision on Anthony

Anthony, 32, was the subject of rampant trade speculation throughout the season, prompting the 10-time All-Star to personally tell Jackson at one point that he wanted to remain with the Knicks and would not waive his no-trade clause. Joakim Noah, similar to Rose, is dealing with a major health setback (rotator cuff tear) and it is unknown if his stint with the team is going to be extended.

"We've not been able to win with him on the court at this time", Jackson said, shortly before insisting that he has not been critical. Jackson said the Knicks "want a significant player" in return, adding that any playoff team that doesn't win the title might look to shake things up.

The Knicks had been in the playoffs for the prior three seasons, including one trip to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, winning a postseason series for the first time 2000.

After the Knicks season finale on Wednesday, Anthony said that he was "open to being traded".

Jackson said Rose, who will be a free agent, expressed a desire to return to NY and intimated that the Knicks would consider re-signing him.

Jackson and Anthony, if it hasn't happened already, will need to sit down and iron out their future plans at some point.

Porzingis, according to team sources, is frustrated with the Knicks' lack of direction.

Romine's grand slam lifts Tigers to 5-3 win over Twins
Brian Dozier had put the Twins up quickly with his 20th career leadoff homer, tying Jacque Jones for the Twins' franchise mark. Justin Wilson pitched the eighth inning and Francisco Rodriguez picked up his third save in four tries in the ninth inning.

For the Knicks, the situation only continues to get messier between Jackson and Anthony.

"He's carried the basic load for this team", Jackson said Friday. Hence Anthony sending out an Instagram post with a caption of "REALLY".

More important for the Knicks at the moment than respecting Carmelo Anthony's legacy is making sure Kristaps Porzingis is happy. He's due to make $26.2 million next season and $27.9 million for the 2018-19 campaign.

"I didn't come here particularly to win a championship but to do things that were directed by my instructions from Dolan", Jackson said Friday.

Instead, because Jackson operates as cover for Dolan and keeps him from taking incoming fire from the media (at least when Dolan isn't cursing at fans or banning franchise legends from MSG for life), Dolan agreed to keep him for two more years at $12 million per - a contract that only rivals Noah's as the worst in the National Basketball Association.

"I have a lot of thinking and reflecting to do", Anthony told ESPN.

Perhaps no two issues demonstrate that contradictory nature than Phil's opinions on Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose.
