Mariners, Marlins Honor Ichiro Suzuki Through Double Bobblehead Giveaway

The Seattle Mariners are playing host to the Miami Marlins this week.

Mitch Haniger's one-out double in the ninth inning saved the Mariners from the indignity of a no-hit loss. RHP Steve Cishek (recovering from hip surgery) threw an 18-pitch scoreless inning in his first rehab appearance for Double-A Arkansas. Dan Straily and two relievers combined to no-hit the New York Mets through seven innings Sunday before Neil Walker broke it up in the eighth with a single off Ziegler with two outs. He allowed all four runs in the first three innings, including one on a wild pitch.

The Marlins pushed the no-hit bid farther this time. He put the Mariners in a quick hole by surrendering two runs in the first inning and never appeared to find a comfort zone.

Seattle starter Yovani Gallardo (0-2) allowed four runs and nine hits.

It got better after that. The bobblehead commemorates his 262-hit season in 2004 with the Mariners and his 3,000th career hit in 2016 with the Marlins.

Mariners: Servais hopes Segura (strained right hamstring) is ready to come off the 10-day DL at Oakland on Thursday. Just two walks, one hit batter and 25 pretty routine outs. Haniger is now working on a 13-game hitting streak.

A look at the Golden State Warriors' playoff picture
The dates, times, and TV schedule for the 2017 NBA Playoffs are listed below, laying out the Portland Trail Blazers vs. The Trail Blazers sat a total of five players Monday night due to injury.

Aaron Hernandez found dead in prison with Bible verse written across forehead
Hernandez was considered a promising athlete who had come from the University of Florida and grew up in Bristol, Conn. Removing a conviction after the death of a high-profile defendant is not without precedent in recent state history.

Additional officers placed on leave over United passenger removal
As The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, reported Monday, airline passengers were told that the flight was overbooked. The flight was loaded and preparing to leave Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Sunday when the man was dragged off.

Marlins: Edinson Volquez (0-1) makes his fourth start of the season still looking for his first victory.

Gallardo's problems started immediately when Dee Gordon whacked the game's first pitch into the right-center gap for a double. He allowed two runs and five hits in the first inning and surrendered long solo home runs later in the game to Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich.

I will say, it certainly is hard to forget the man that acquired 10 All-Star honors in 11-plus seasons with the Mariners but that does not define him.

LEADING OFF: Yankees go for 9th straight win, Thames on homer run for Brewers, Ausmus off to another strong start for Tigers. Yelich made an over-the-shoulder basket catch of Jarrod Dyson's first-inning drive while crashing into the center-field wall.

Mariners: The return of Segura may be delayed until early next week.
