Nadal beats Ramos-Vinolas to win 10th Monte Carlo Masters

23 de abril de 2017, 10:37Monte Carlo, Apr 23 (Prensa Latina) Spanish Rafael Nadal captured an incredible 10th Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters crown today in beating fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-1, 6-3 in the 76-minute final. Next up is Barcelona, where Nadal also has nine titles, followed by Madrid and Rome, and the clay season culminates in the French Open where-yes-Nadal will also go for a remarkable 10th title.

"I feel very excited about it", commented Nadal, who targeted at being the first player in the Open Era to have won 10 tournament titles.

He won the title again past year and then added the Barcelona crown a week later, yet had not lifted a trophy since. "I played well here, which helps me a lot to start the claycourt season with confidence", said Nadal afterwards.

It's been some time since Nadal last reigned as the dominant force in tennis, but Sunday's victory could be the jump-start needed to revive a legend's legacy at the peak of his performance calendar. Then, there was that unfortunate game when I dropped my serve, the match turned around. The Spaniard is second on the all-time list, after Djokovic (30), and ahead of Federer (26) and Andy Murray (14).

Nadal's celebrations were muted after he clinched victory on his third match point and he sympathetically hugged Goffin at the net.

Nadal's career title count now stands at 70, with four tournament wins on grass and 16 on hard courts accounting for his non-clay titles.

"It was a great match, a great feeling, a great atmosphere", Goffin said afterward. Rafael Nadal of Spain reacts after defeating David Goffin of Belgium. "On Monday I was not expecting such a week, I don't know why it's happening now", said Ramos-Vinolas, who has only one ATP title to his name. Both of their previous meetings have gone the way of Nadal; 6-3, 6-0 on the red clay of Barcelona in 2013 and 7-6 (4), 6-2 at the same tournament one year later.

Ramos-Vinolas will rise to career-high ranking of No19 on Monday, cracking the top-20 for the first time.

"I have nothing against Cedric, he's a very nice guy", Goffin said. Top 10 opponents, Ramos-Vinolas put together the best run of his career.

Ramos-Vinolas saved the first two championship points but double faulted on the third: Nadal had his 10th Monte-Carlo title, 6-3.

"When he's a little bit better in everything, the difference is what we saw in the match". To be honest, I think he served really good today.
