Pence to visit mosque in Indonesian capital

"The only thing we need to hear from North Korea is that they are ending and ultimately dismantling their nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles program", Pence said aboard the USS Ronald Reagan at the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan.

Vice President Mike Pence, while in South Korea, yesterday, where he visited the DMZ among other places, issued fresh warnings against Pyongyang, which were met with equally belligerent language from North Korea. "But President Trump and I and our administration believes the most productive pathway forward is dialogue among the family of nations that can isolate and pressure North Korea into abandoning permanently and dismantling its nuclear weapons program and its ballistic missile program".

The paper also said North Korea would "wipe out" USA forces. "We want to send an unambiguous message especially to north Korea that any attempt to use weapons of any kind against our allies in this region or American forces overseas will be defeated and will be met with overwhelming force", Pence said.

In several interviews and speeches this week, Pence has described the Trump administration's North Korea strategy as a clean break from the Obama administration's policy of "strategic patience".

Pence is halfway through his four-nation Asia trip, and concerns over North Korea have been dominant.

NY [U.S.A.], April 19: United States Vice President Mike Pence has said North Korea was getting the message that it needed to walk away from its "reckless" nuclear activity. "Just as President Ronald Reagan restored the armed forces in his day, so too, President Donald Trump will make the strongest fighting force in the world even stronger still", Pence said.

"We know that you can help us level that playing field between our two countries and move toward a system that maximize jobs and growth and a brighter future for the people of the USA and people of South Korea".

But the revelation could be damaging to the United States position in Asia, experts say, as it feeds the idea that President Trump cannot always be taken at his word.

On Sunday, as part of celebrations to mark the birthday of late North Korean founder Kim Il Sung, state television aired a concert which included a video showing the USA engulfed in flames.

Pence has repeatedly said that "all options are on the table" to deal with North Korea.

The four most important words Pence has said on his Asia trip so far were in response to a key question: Will the United States talk to North Korea?

Pence also spoke about his visit to the demilitarized zone, where he stood outside the Freedom House on the South Korean side of the border and stared into North Korea.

Pyongyang, which is intent on building a nuclear-tipped warhead capable of striking the U.S., unsuccessfully fired a missile on Sunday in what experts posit to be a new weapon that can be used to target ships.
