An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing Virginia baby whose mother also has disappeared, police say.

Chloe and her mother, 34-year-old Keir Johnson, were reported missing last week.

Police believe that the two have been abducted by a man.

Kier was last seen driving a black 2013 Kia Optima with Virginia license plates reading "VAW-2197".

Chloe Johnson is described as 2-feet-5-inches, weight 20 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

On Thursday, Hampton police officials issued a statement elaborating on the reasons why they believe the missing mother and daughter were abducted.

Police say Johnson, who usually is in contact with family members several times a day, hasn't been heard from since. She was last seen in blue jeans and a t-shirt. Keir Johnson is described as 4-feet-11-inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds.

Hampton Police Chief Terry Sult said at a press conference Tuesday that "diligent police work" and new information has upgraded the case to a possible abduction.
