Howell's residential and commercial property owners will pay $78.1 million in local taxes (64.5 percent of the total budget) to support the operation of the school district. In addition, the board approved the hiring of Rebecca DelPrince, school psychologist, effective July 1, at a salary of $51,500, with the cost shared with Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems.

Todd McFee (179 votes), Jeffrey L. Jones (173) and David Przestrzelski (161) were all re-elected to three-year school board terms. The state-funded, four-year program is available to the district as 52 percent of students at the four campuses qualify for free meals.

The budget anticipates $113.9 million in revenue, up from $107.8 million this year. The budget is up $578,024 over this year. Challengers Robert Silcock received 106 votes, incumbent Kathryn Millar, 56, Kristina Haymore, 53, and Randy Winn, who pulled out of the race for the seat prior to the election, won 35 votes. Bodamer noted the $1.4 million needed to bolster the budget would be drawn from the $10.3 million fund balance. The vote was 84 to 41. Patrons also expressed a desire for more transparency in the district and better communication between the public and the board.

She said the district will continue to seek out community partnerships, think outside the box and engage in team effort.

Michael Lewis (333 votes) and Dennis Egelston (241) were elected to three-year school board terms. There were no challengers.
