Trump Hires Marc Kasowitz As Outside Counsel Amid Russia Probe

President Trump has retained the services of a trusted lawyer, Marc E. Kasowitz, to help him navigate the investigations into his campaign and suspected Russian interference in last year's election, according to people familiar with the decision.

He is a partner at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman in NY and has represented Trump in numerous cases, including on his divorce records, real estate transactions and allegations of fraud at Trump University, The Washington Post reported.

Kasowitz — who also represents ousted Fox News personality Bill O'Reilly — is the founding and managing partner of Kasowitz Benson Torres. The Post noted that if Trump hires Kasowitz and Lieberman is nominated and confirmed to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation, it would likely result in a conflict of interest. Trump and other Republicans have said they believe Russian Federation was involved in the hacking of Democratic institutions, but that the alleged interference did not affect the outcome of the election.

The expected move comes less than a week after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed a special counsel, former FBI director Robert Mueller, to oversee the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the US presidential election.

"The problem wasn't so much asking them to issue statements, it was asking them to issue false statements about an ongoing investigation", a former senior intelligence official said of the request to Coats. "So if the allegation is Trump - either as candidate or officeholder - is facing legal costs as a result of those statuses, then he is entitled to use his campaign funds to defray the legal expenses".

The committee has already subpoenaed Flynn for documents regarding his contacts with Russian officials during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The New York attorney has been a lawyer for Trump since the early 2000s.

Even as Trump travels overseas this week, the Russian probe has continued to make headlines.

After Trump won, Lewandowski opened Avenue Strategies, a consulting firm with Barry Bennett, who formerly managed Ben Carson's unsuccessful bid for president.

Questions about Mueller's appointment were raised last week in light of the fact that his former law firm, WilmerHale, represents President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who both work in the White House, as well as former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

President Trump denies any collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation.
