"The Liberal Democrats are now that party".

It is likely that the Lib Dems' focus on waste and recycling policies will be welcomed by businesses in the sector.

The question is whether the 48% of Remainers will continue with the resistance to Brexit by supporting the Lib Dems, or accept the result and back the other parties who are prepared to get on with the job of taking the United Kingdom out of the EU?

He said Mrs May's decision to pull Britain out of the single market would prove ruinous for the country.

The Liberal Democrats have also said they would introduce a Father's Month - an additional month of paid parental leave for fathers, to encourage greater sharing of parental responsibilities.

Launched today (17 May) the manifesto echoes a number of the policies set out in the Party's 2015 policy document (see letsrecycle.com story) - alongside a new commitment to pass a "Zero-Waste Act" which would include legally binding targets on the consumption of natural resources.

They say that the plans are fully costed in the Liberal Democrat manifesto, which will be published tomorrow.

Sitting a distant third place in opinion polls ahead of the June 8 vote, the Lib Dems are styling themselves as the party of the 48 percent who voted past year to remain in the European Union. "And if you don't like the deal you should be able to reject it and choose to remain in Europe".

Writing in the manifesto's introduction, Mr Farron will say: "There is a complete absence of real opposition from Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party".

"I worked with residents locally to oppose plans to scrap the direct train from Seaford to London and handed over 3,000 signatures to the Prime Minister in December calling for Southern Rail to be sacked".

Give almost £7 billion extra for schools and colleges including protecting per-pupil funding in real terms.

The party says it has "no intention of just throwing away our hard-fought efforts to control the deficit during the coalition years" and said it would commit to eliminating the deficit in day-to-day spending by 2020.

As well as extra investment for schools and hospitals the Lib Dems are also committed to a £100bn infrastructure investment to help build 300,000 homes a year.

The Lib Dems hope to fund the giveaway, in part through opening up a taxed, regulated market for cannabis sales to over-18s, which it estimates will raise £1bn.
