These 14 Models Prepared For Trump To Drop The Climate Deal [SLIDESHOW]

As media reported Wednesday that Trump was prepared to exit the 2015 global pact aimed at reducing the effects of climate change, Musk warned the president to uphold the agreement.

According to reports, Trump's decision was fuelled by the lack of common grounds with other global leaders at the G7 summit, which took place in Taormina, Sicily.

By abandoning the world's chief effort to slow the tide of planetary warming, Trump was fulfilling a top campaign pledge. On Wednesday afternoon, Trump was to meet with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who has favored remaining in the deal. The former reality TV star with a flair for drama later promoted his Rose Garden announcement in a tweet.

The Trump administration may or may not signal the mode of withdrawal if it does, in fact, announce that it will pull out of the agreement this week. The UNFCCC is the body that created both the failed Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement.

The Obama administration pledged a 26 to 28 percent cut in USA emissions, which Republicans have criticized for potentially having a negative impact on the American economy and its energy sector. Countries are permitted under the treaty to change their goals and there is no punishment for missing targets. That means it could take another three-and-half years for the U.S.to formally withdraw, though Trump promised to stop implementation immediately.

The UNFCCC has almost universal membership and provides the underlying framework for worldwide cooperation to combat climate change.

Almost 200 nations, including the United States under President Barack Obama's administration, agreed in 2015 to voluntarily reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to combat climate change.

During Trump's overseas trip last week, European leaders pressed him to keep the United States in the landmark agreement.

"President Trump is ceding the future to the Germans, the Chinese, the Indians, and other nations rather than having the United States continue to lead the world on clean energy solutions", said Sen. The CEO of SpaceX, Musk has said further delay in adopting policies to mitigate climate change would cause more "destruction than all the wars in history combined".

Most notably, in 2012, ASEAN leaders failed to issue a joint statement after a summit in Cambodia over these divisions. Anifah added that the framework would be made public once completed.

American corporate leaders have also appealed to the businessman-turned-president to stay in the pact.

Hundreds of high-profile businesses have spoken out in favor of the deal, including Apple, Google and Walmart. "It's unconscionable for the President of the United States to step away from it".

"I want to remind everyone that here in Red Hook we saw the destructive power of nature in the age of climate change", he said.

"China in recent years has stayed true to its commitment", said Li, speaking in Berlin Wednesday. During his presidential campaign, Trump threatened to cancel America's involvement.

Earlier yesterday, a White House official said Trump was expected to pull out of the deal, but added that there could be "caveats". "It looks like that attempt failed", Juncker said.

This isn't the first time Musk has publicly opposed the Trump administration.

That fight has played out within the Trump administration.

"It is imperative that we maintain our seat at the table in global discussions of how to address the threats posed by climate change", a group of bipartisan lawmakers wrote to the White House in April.

But this option may not be the likely route, since two senior officials say Trump is expected to withdraw from the climate deal.
