RESULTS: Virginia June 13 Gubernatorial Primary

Most polls show Gillespie with a double-digit lead. Also seeking the nomination are Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors and Donald Trump's Virginia campaign chairman, and state Sen.

According to a release, Virginia does not require people to register to vote by party, but they will be asked which primary they wish to participate in and only be allowed to vote in one.

In the gubernatorial race, Former 5th District Representative Tom Perriello is taking on Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam for the Democratic nomination.

Pressed by NBC as to whether he would campaign with Trump, Gillespie also hedged and argued this was about state and local issues.

The hotly contested Democratic primary for governor will be decided by turnout, who shows up to the polls and who stays home. Obama has remained neutral in the race, but many of his former aides have lined up behind Perriello. Northam has emphasized his biography - rural upbringing, Army veteran, and pediatric neurologist - as well as his bona fides with key progressive groups that make up the Democratic base.

Statewide, votes will be cast for Virginia governor, lieutenant governor and state delegates.

A BCCI official is quoted as saying, "The Indian team wasn't comfortable and they maintained a dignified distance from Mallya ". Incidentally, Mallya used to own an IPL franchise, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, which is captained by the skipper Kohli.

Northam is a more traditional candidate who stresses his pragmatic approach and ability to work with Republicans.

"Politicians have to be straightforward", Northam said. "I don't think that Tom Perriello, despite being endorsed by Bernie Sanders, is as progressive as he's made out to be because of his track record". Northam was expected to cruise in as the party's only choice, but after Trump's election, Perriello threw his hat into the ring, arguing that bolder leadership was needed to be push back against Trump-style politics.

"Very low" in Virginia off-year elections really does mean very low: In the last wide-open Democratic gubernatorial primary, in 2009, only 6.3 percent of registered voters participated (Virginia does not have voter registration by party). Perriello is hoping Virginia progressives view his move as a signal that he will rid corporate influence from the governor's mansion - a task that will be much easier said than done.

"All the national money and national attention will be coming this way", he said. He's accused Gillespie of trying to mislead voters with unrealistic promises to cut taxes as governor, while calling for a gas tax increase himself to pay for transportation projects. Stewart has waged a campaign to protect Confederate monuments around the state and was the only candidate to not outright reject an alt-right rally in Charlottesville organized by white nationalist Richard Spencer. For someone making $60,000 a year, that would mean about $400 less in state income taxes owed. He has said he would be focused on creating economic opportunity and security for the middle class by helping small businesses thrive and expanding workforce development.

Gillespie is deeply connected in both national and Virginia politics and has spent his career working for high-profile Republicans including presidential candidate John Kasich, former President George W. Bush and former Virginia Gov. "That being said this election is about a lot more than pipeline". He's now running a similar blow-up-the-system campaign.

Obama never joined Perriello on the campaign trail, as he did in 2010 when the congressman was fighting an ill-fated battle to keep his seat in the House. A victory for Northam is a major win for the state party's establishment who largely rallied around his campaign early. Among those, two incumbents — Ron Villanueva, who represents part of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, and Bobby Orrock, who represents parts of Caroline and Spotsylvania counties — are facing primary challengers.
