In a commentary Friday, North Korean state-controlled newspaper Rodong Sinmun said that if South Korea pursues peace with the North, it should "stop all hostilities", including sanctions.

Proposed collaboration between North and South Korea at the 2018 Winter Olympics has been welcomed by the International Olympic Committee.

The sports minister further said that both Nation could co-host the ski resort even with Jang Woong, who is the delegate of North Korea to the IOC.

Pyeongchang 2018 appear to open to the possibility, with the organisers now reviewing the plans.

Moon was elected as the country's President on May 9, after a cronyism scandal led to Park Geun-hye being impeached.

Despite Moon's public statements that he wants to improve relations with North Korea, Pyongyang has ramped up missile testing and continued its aggressive rhetoric towards its southern neighbor and the US. The minister said PyeongChang 2018 could be the "Peace Olympics" if North Korea was to participate.

Respondents also chose their most anticipated South Korean athlete of the Winter Games, with two-time Olympic long-track speed skating 500m champion Lee Sang-Hwa receiving the most votes of 79.

The proposal, which would amalgamate North and South Korea's women's hockey teams, is one of a number of efforts at rapprochement ahead of the February opening of the Games in the South Korean town of Pyeonchang. In May, International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) President Rene Fasel said that the final decision could be made during the NHL Draft that would take place in Chicago on June 23-24.
