Cops who shot Seattle mom are identified

Charleena Lyles loved to sing and dance.

Taken from a surveillance camera in the hallway of Lyles' 4th story apartment, the video shows the 24 hours before two Seattle police officers shot the 30-year-old Lyles multiple times after they accused her of attacking them with knives, according to the Seattle Patch.

The Seattle woman was kind and caring, and "if you met her, you would be drawn in", said her older sister, Monika Williams. Her family and community members blasted their decision to use deadly force on the mother of four and questioned why other alternatives weren't used.

Before arriving at Lyles' apartment, the responding officers discussed Lyles' June 5 encounter with police and noted an "officer safety caution" at the address.

The officers went to the apartment - where several children were present - after a call Sunday morning about a burglary, police said.

Suddenly, though, a confrontation erupted.

It also threatens to undermine the strides Seattle police have made in regaining public trust since a series of troubling events, including the unnecessary killing of a Native American woodcarver by an officer in 2010, prompted the DOJ's investigation.

Facing backlash on its handling of the officer-involved shooting death of Charleena Lyles, the Seattle Police Department will shut down its official Twitch channel. "She called them for help". She told him that she had left about two to three hours ago and when she came back, the door was open.

Police and the mayor say the shooting will be investigated and under the watch of federal court monitoring team. We will leave no stone unturned.

Lyles' father said he wants justice for his daughter, who liked to dress up and enjoyed playing little jokes on him.

Neither officer had a stun gun, but they did have other options, either a baton or pepper spray.
