"Google has chose to follow suit later this year in our free consumer Gmail service".

Ads that free Gmail users will still see above their emails will now only be generated using other data Google collects about the end-users, including their location, internet searches and web history.

This new development by Google helps it maintain the privacy of Gmail users and averts criticism or the issue of privacy blowing up further. Google had been scanning through what Gmail users were discussing and then showing ads connected to some of the topics.
