Cessna 310 Crashes on LA Freeway

Orange County Fire Capt. Larry Kurtz tells KCBS-TV that Cessna 310 aircraft clipped the auto as it crashed Friday morning on Interstate 405 near John Wayne Airport in Costa Mesa.

The Cessna 310 aircraft crash-landed just after 9:30 a.m. P.S.T. and burst into flames, reports indicate. Two people were on board, the FAA spokesman confirmed. The plane only clipped one vehicle as it crashed on the freeway, an official told ABC7, adding that this was "truly remarkable".

"The fact that a plane was able to land and only strike a single vehicle is extraordinary", Orange County Fire Capt. Larry Kurtz said. According to records, the last time this plane was in the air was Thursday when it flew from John Wayne to Ontario, then back to John Wayne.

Photos posted on social media showed flames shooting out of the front of the aircraft and smoke surrounding the plane.

The car's driver, who only suffered a bruised elbow, described the frightening incident. The airfield is closed to arrivals, but departures are not affected. Sejah Qamoum, 17, received two staples on her head and was released from the hospital Tuesday, according to KHOU.
