Rejuvenated Federer Back to Conquer Wimbledon Again

Rejuvenated Federer Back to Conquer Wimbledon Again

On Tuesday, Roger Federer's first-round match is the third scheduled match on Centre Court.

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic found it all too easy as they stumbled upon a pair of retiring types at Wimbledon. Dolgopolov is someone capable of great shots and, occasionally, a stunning result; Federer's greatness resides in not only his longevity and 18 slams, but his unwavering faith in his own genius.

In the all-British first round match Kyle Edmund suffered a scare before claiming his first win at Wimbledon after outlasting world number 869 Alex Ward.

By simply playing the first point, Federer also drew level with Fabrice Santoro's professional era record of playing in a 70th grand slam tournament.

Djokovic took the opening set at a canter as Klizan showed a complete lack of mobility on the baseline.

Three-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic needs to rediscover his world-dominating form if he is to threaten the three men ahead of him in the pecking order.

The former US Open champion will face Ernests Gulbis in round two after the unseeded Latvian beat the Dominican Republic's Victor Estrella Burgos 6-1 6-1 6-2. Defending his title, Djokovic crashed out in the third round at Wimbledon past year and has underperformed in the Grand Slams in 2017, the 12-time major victor losing in the second round in Melbourne and the quarter-finals in Paris. They are the days when players wake up and feel butterflies in their stomach like they have never felt before, as they prepare to contest a match for the ultimate prize.

'When I walked up, the chairman said, "You guys should go and play for another set and a half".

"I don't want to be at the mercy of my opponent", said Federer.

Djokovic, a three times Wimbledon champion, had taken the first set 6-3 before Klizan called the trainer onto Centre Court to treat a leg injury.

The crowd voiced their disapproval when Federer's match was brought to a premature end on day two at the All England club. "But now it's a roller coaster, and I just can't seem to find, like, the commitment to work hard, to enjoy (playing) and to lift trophies".

Big-serving Raonic became the first Canadian man to make a Grand Slam final with his impressive Wimbledon run 12 months ago before losing the title match to Andy Murray. The Swiss ace had an excellent build up to the Wimbledon tournament winning the Gerry Weber tournament at Halle for a record ninth time.
