CBI raids Lalu, kin's premises over corruption charges in hotel allotment case

A defiant Yadav, who returned to Patna from Ranchi after the raid was conducted, called the whole exercise a conspiracy hatched against him by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). "I am not going to cow down before such raids as there is no illegality and I have done nothing wrong", Prasad said.

Taking a jibe at the Bihar Chief Minister, Paswan said that when the Centre had acted against the RJD chief and his family in connection with them amassing "benami" properties to the tune of crores in the last few years, why was Nitish silent now?

The BJP leader further added that "apart from these 125 properties, they (Lalu and his family) have become owners of the land worth millions through seven shell companies in Patna, Kolkata, Delhi, and Aurangabad". The raids come even as the nodal agency has registered a case against the former Railways minister, his wife Rabri Devi and his son Tejashwi Yadav over allegations of corruption during his tenure as Union minister in 2006.

The CBI on Friday carried out searches in 12 locations in Patna, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar and Gurugram after registering a corruption case against Prasad and his family members, including Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, in a case of criminal conspiracy, cheating and corruption.

The CBI registered the case against Lalu, Rabri Devi, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav, former Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Managing Director P.K. Goyal, and Lalu Prasad's confidant Prem Chand Gupta's wife regarding award of the tender for development, maintenance and operation of railway hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006.

Criticising the recent CBI raids conducted on the premises of former Railway Minister and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, RJD leaders and few other party leaders demonstrated protest against it. Available on Android and IOS. "We are together and we will jointly fight against the BJP", Congress state president Ashok Chaudhary said, before meeting Mr Yadav on Saturday.

He also refuted charges of favouring Sujata Hotels through IRCTC while he was the railway minister and said the decision to hand over the hotels was taken before he took over as railway minister in 2004.
