FBI Investigating Explosion At Bixby Air Force Recruiting Center

The door of the center was blown off in the blast and landed in a parking space in front of the storefront and soot-covered windows.

A music store just down from the recruiting store opened Monday, July 10. Authorities declined to specify the nature of the device.

Authorities are investigating into what may have caused an explosion next to a Bixby, Oklahoma, U.S. Air Force recruiting office. Officials from the FBI and ATF, the federal agency in charge of investigating bombs, are also present should the explosion fall under their jurisdiction - for example if it is classified an act of domestic terrorism.

She says agents are treating the explosion late Monday as a possible act of domestic terrorism out of "an abundance of caution", because of its proximity to the recruiting office.

The blast took place around 10.30pm local time (4.30pm GMT) in Bixby, which lies around 15 miles to the south of Tulsa. They began in 2008 under somewhat similar circumstances when someone placed a small bomb outside of the military recruiting office in Times Square in New York City overnight.

They show the plane in flames, emergency teams rushing to the scene, and the plane's passengers after they were evacuated. Photos posted on social media showed flames shooting out of the front of the aircraft and smoke surrounding the plane.

A few days earlier, a nearby National Guard recruiting center was vandalized, police said, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman.

There were no reports of injuries.

Investigators with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are at the scene.

No arrests have been made so far.
