Trump Picks Sam Brownback as International Religious Freedom Ambassador

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has been nominated as the Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom.

The White House announced Trump's nomination of Brownback Wednesday night.

"It's an issue he knows well and knows strongly and he's worked in a bipartisan manner in addressing religious freedom issues", Saperstein said. "The choice of what you do with your own soul", he tweeted.

Brownback "has the experience, gravitas, and bureaucratic skill to sell this understanding" of the importance of religious freedom, Farr said, "and to build a successful policy, within a resistant bureaucracy at the Department of State and a largely indifferent political class". According to its web site, its mission is to promote religious freedom as a core objective of US foreign policy.

State Senator Bruce Givens (R-El Dorado) said that while he was unaware of the actual appointment when contacted by ElDoradoLeader.Com, rumors had been circulating that the move would be made for several months.

A position like this is well-timed for Brownback, whose approval rating hovers in the mid-20s, as Kansas residents have soured on his governance.

Gov. Rauner calls school-funding special session
But threatened with a veto, the Senate never sent Rauner that legislation, prompting the governor's call for special session. Separately, we can, we can do it this summer or some other time - fix the pension problem in Chicago and around the state.

Mr. Estabrook said he thought that Governor Brownback entered office expecting to begin a presidential campaign based on a tax-slashing conservative model and that he refused to change course when the results he anticipated did not materialize.

If he does get approved by the U.S. Senate, Kansas Lt. Governor Jeff Colyer will take the reigns in Kansas. "There is no better person to promote religious freedom around the world on behalf of America".

"Sam will be Tillerson's right hand on these issues, and I think Sam will complement Tillerson very well", Wolf said. Under the new law, Brownback said religious student groups could "establish religious beliefs as qualification for membership".

He rejected any suggestion that the ambassadorship could be a step down for the governor. "I look forward to working with Governor Brownback on these important issues". "70 some percent of the people are living in a religiously oppressed environment". Givens recalls. "That plan would have helped a lot of people suffering from disabilities and mental illnesses". "He's a man of deep personal faith, conviction, sensitivity and empathy".

He'll be expected to assist religious and human rights groups, testify before Congress on issues of religious freedom, and meet with foreign government officials to discuss persecution of religious minorities in their countries.
