Amazon snags rights to Lucille Ball movie starring Cate Blanchett

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon nabbed the rights to distribute the film - which Deadline claims is titled Lucy and Desi - once production is complete.

The film was picked up by Amazon Studios, E!

Blanchett is yet to sign on the dotted line, but the United States trade publication The Hollywood Reporter says the 48-year-old Melbourne-born actress is close.

And now Australian star Cate Blanchett has been tipped to play Lucille in an authorised biopic about the American actress.

People were supposed to be sleeping, that how peaceful this should be. "I was shocked to learn this happened", he also said. CAIR's local chapter says its national office is urging Islamic centers and places of worship to step up security.

Sorkin, whose credits include "A Few Good Men", "The West Wing" and "The Social Network", is writing the script based on memoirs written by both Ball and Arnaz, the rights to which were secured from their children, Lucie and Desi Jr. Lucy and Desi also has the blessing of the couple's adult children. The show was the first to ever feature an interracial couple - Ball's sitcom husband, Ricky Ricardo, who was played by her real-life Cuban spouse - and was also the first to use a three-camera setup which later became standard for many subsequent sitcoms.

The feature, from production company Escape Artists, will explore the life and love story of the U.S. actress/comedienne, during her 20-year marriage to Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz, with whom she eloped in 1940. The project has always been of interest, not least of all because in addition to its Oscar winning star, it also has a screenplay by another Oscar victor, Aaron Sorkin of The Social Network, Moneyball, and Steve Jobs fame.

Blanchett, who recently made her Broadway debut in THE PRESENT, will soon return to the London stage in the role of Margo Channing in Ivo van Hove's ALL ABOUT EVE.

Blanchett has been cast as Lucy, but the film is still in the process of finding its Desi, with Javier Bardem being one of the names floated for the part.
