Buffalo also continued stockpiling 2018 draft picks by acquiring a second-round selection from Los Angeles and a third-rounder from the Eagles. On the heels of their preseason opener, the Bills dealt top cornerback Ronald Darby in exchange for WR Jordan Matthews and a third-round pick in the 2018 National Football League draft.

Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins has been traded to the L.A. Rams.

Matthews, 25, totaled 225 catches for 2,673 yards and 19 touchdowns in three seasons with the Eagles. While posting 60 receptions on 95 targets, he also produced 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns, both of which still serve as single-season career-high marks. He has 137 tackles, 33 pass deflections and 2 interceptions in 29 games. "Watkins" time in Buffalo, however, was hampered by injuries, particularly in 2016. Darby was considered their top cornerback on the depth chart.

That's a pretty nice value for the Bills, getting a rental on Matthews and getting the third round pick, but that wasn't the only trade they made. Nelson Agholor is under team control for the next two years, and Alshon Jeffery will be looking for a new deal at the end of the season.

Buffalo likely looks to a young player such as rookie Zay Jones to fill the big-play role.

Jordan Matthews will join the Bills after three seasons in Philadelphia.

Before we get into Darby and what he brings to the Eagles, let's talk about what the Eagles are losing in Matthews. "This isn't one where you're celebrating and doing a dance because you're giving up a good player and a good pick". With that number nearly certainly rising in 2017, you can expect a bump in pass attempts, which wasn't hard to do to begin with, seeing as the Bills have ranked in the bottom-two for pass attempts in each of the last two years. But Webster's familiarity with Wade Phillips' system - Webster played on Phillips' Broncos defenses these last two years - gave him an advantage and ultimately won him the job.
